Recreational marinas must deal with the same issues and problems as ports, usually with much smaller budgets. Wave agitation and sedimentation are the two greatest areas of concern. The level of wave agitation in a marina depends on a number of factors, including local wave climate, wave refraction over the underlying bathymetry, wave diffraction around structures and wave transmission and reflection from floating breakwaters and other marina infrastructure. Sedimentation depends on type and amount of sediment present, as well as the flows that disturb and circulate those sediments.
Coldwater Consulting has years of experience in the use of physical and numerical models for a broad range of marina issues, including proprietary models for marina wave climate that include floating breakwaters, wave fences, etc., and models suitable for channel sedimentation and dredging program design.
